Maryland Retains the Cup for the Fifth year
Maryland once again won the Capital Cup beating the Virginia Team 13-11. Although Maryland won the cup, Team Virginia made it very close and at one point on the second day had the lead in the matches. This was the closest match yet and makes for an exciting 2014 Capital Cup with Team Virginia playing on home soil.
Both Woodmont Country Club (South Course) and TPC Potomac Farm at Avenel were in fantastic shape and the juniors were making a lot of birdies and eagles all weekend. For complete results please click on the links below

The Capital Cup is a Ryder Cup style event in which teams of twelve junior golfers, age 18 and under, from the state of Virginia compete against Maryland. The team’s rosters were selected by a qualifier for both teams throughout the summer. Two captain’s picks were also selected for each team.

The Virginia Qualifier was held at CC of Petersburg on July 13th. Ian Hildebrand took the medalist honors by firing a 3 under 69 on a very difficult and long course. There was a playoff at 75 with three players (Thomas Fricke, Sameer Qader, and Nicholas Bruner.) The playoff only took one hole as Bruner and Qader made par. Although Fricke missed out in the playoff he was made a captains pick the next day.
The Maryland Qualifier was held at University of Maryland Golf Course on July 31st. Justin Feldman was medalist shooting a three under 68. Feldman absolutely tore apart the back nine shooting 7 under 29! There was a playoff at 75 with Tyler Silberberg birding the first playoff hole to advance and make the team.
Play begins at 7:30 Am on Saturday and 11:30 AM on Sunday. The juniors will be playing the Woodmont CC (South Course) on Saturday and TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm on Sunday. The format of Saturday Morning play will be foursome’s match play (Alternate Shot). Saturday afternoon play will be four-ball match play (better ball). The tournament will conclude on Sunday morning with a head to head competition in singles match play.
