DC Interclub

Frank Emmett Interclub

The Frank Emmett Junior Interclub League serves as an introduction to team golf for junior golfers in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. Through a series of match play events, participants will meet and play with fellow junior golfers as they gain the skills necessary to compete on interscholastic teams as well as in junior events throughout the region. Clubs participating in the leagues will field a team of players that are looking to get a better feel for the enjoyment of competitive golf while playing many great courses that they may not otherwise get to experience.
The 2012 season is rapidly approaching. This year Michael Thomas, PGA from Woodmont Country Club and Tommy Smith, PGA from Army Navy Country Club will serve as co-commissioners of the Frank Emmett Junior Interclub. If you are thinking about joining but have questions about scheduling a host match, traveling, or fielding a team please contact Michael or Tommy and they will be happy to answer your questions and help you find a solution. When selecting your host date, please take note of other junior events in the area as a lot of the juniors participating in Interclub also participate in other events.   I realize this isn’t an easy task as there are very few days in the summer with no junior golf events scheduled!
Junior Interclub has two divisions: Eighteen-hole and Nine-hole. The Eighteen-hole teams are comprised of six juniors and the Nine-hole teams consist of four to six juniors ages 13 and under.
A host club's responsibilities are to:
  • Have enough juniors to always fill a team.
  • In match play divisions, host an interclub match once a year.
  • Provide lunch for teams and adult supervisors when hosting.
  • Nine-hole teams require an adult supervisor to be on property for each match the team participates in.
  • Report all results to your Division Commissioner in a timely fashion to ensure accurate standings are posted on the website.

As a reminder, the DC Junior Interclub adopted a few changes for the 2011 season that will continue into 2012. Below are the changes:
Changes implemented in 2011:
The age requirements for the 18-hole division have been changed to hopefully increase participation by making it easier to fill all six spots. The new structure is:
o             Two juniors ages 14 & Under
o             Four juniors ages 15 – 18
o             As always, you can play up in age groups, not down
o             College students are not eligible for Junior Interclub
In the case of a forfeit, the winning team will receive 6.5 points (previously 9) and the forfeiting team will receive zero.
o             This will hopefully reduce the chances of a team winning their division due to gaining an advantage from winning forfeits over a team that played an opponent in all matches
Juniors who are eligible by age to play on both the 18-hole and 9-hole teams for their club may now play in two 18-hole matches (previously one) before they are ineligible to play in any remaining 9-hole matches.
o             Once a junior has played in three 18-hole matches, they may no longer play on the 9-hole team.
The Section staff will continue to handle the processing of all registration fees and the paying of all invoices related to this program. The staff will also continue to post Interclub results and standings on the MAPGA website when provided by the Division Commissioners.
Dues are $100 for a 9-hole or 18-hole team or $200 if your facility wishes to register both 9 and 18-hole teams. The deadline to register for the 2012 Frank Emmett Junior Interclub season is Friday, February 24, 2012. The divisional schedule will be available no later than May 1.
Please click here for the enclosed registration form, and send it, along with a check or money order to the MAPGA Section office before the above date. You may also fax the registration form with credit card information to (540) 720-7076. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at the MAPGA Section office at (540) 720-7420, ext. 128 or via email at bheintz@pgahq.com. Thank you!
