Jim Estes, PGA, the Director of Instruction from Olney Golf Park in Olney, Maryland birdied the 18th hole and fired a second round 69 to win the year-ending Zero Restriction Tournament of Champions. Estes, one behind co-leaders Chip Sullivan, PGA (Ashley Plantation, Daleville, VA), and Faber Jamerson (Falling River CC, in Appomattox, VA) after the first round, fired five birdies against a double bogey and a bogey and broke a three-way tie with Sullivan and Jamerson on #18.
In the Senior Division, Roger Hatcher, PGA (Evergreen CC) held onto his first round lead to win by one stroke at 1-under par (70-71).Glen Barrett (PGA Tour Trailer) had an eagle putt to tie on 18, but lipped out and had to settle for birdie.Larry Ringer, PGA also tied for second after a second round 68 (74-68, E)
Estes also overtook Rick Schuller to win the 2008 Player of the Year award with his win.Schuller (Swader’s Sports Park) came in 4th place, but Estes’ win vaulted him to the title.
