Peden Wins the Overall Boys and Luo Wins the Overall Girls

Lorton, Va. – Jack Peden of Vienna, VA wins the Overall Boys Championship with a two day total of 150 at the MAPGA Junior Spring Fling tournament at Laurel Hill Golf Club (Lorton, Va.) Peden also won the Boys 16-18 division and earned an AJGA Performance Star.  Peden birdied hole #7 & #9 to finish his front nine at one over par.  Ian Hildebrand of Purcellville, VA finished second shooting a two-day total of 153.  Julie Luo of Centreville, Va. won the Overall Girls Division and Girls 15-18 division by shooting a two-day total of 144.  Luo shot a 1 under 70 to blow away the field. Lauren Kim of Woodstock, Md. won the girls 12-14 division shooting a two-day total of 153.  With temperatures in the high 40’s and winds gusting over 25 mph, the weather made for a very challenging round of golf.

David Rabil of Fairfax Station, VA won the Boys 14-15 division shooting a 155.  Rabil shot a 75 the second day to win the age division by 4 strokes over Jordan Holifield of Crofton, MD.  Rabil said he struck the ball very well but could not buy a putt.  Fortunately, for him the 75 was good enough to win his division.

Graham Hutchinson of Bethesda, MD won the Boys 13 and under division shooting a two-day total of 151.  Hutchinson was behind the first day leader Milan Matneja, of Fairfax, VA by one heading into day two but pulled away with the win.

Conditions were much better today with winds only gusting around 25 mph and the temperatures almost reaching 60 degrees.  Along with the weather conditions, the scores were much better the second day.  Although the course saw almost 3 inches of snow three days prior to the event, the course conditions were excellent with quick greens and true fairways.

Garrett Larson of Gainesville, VA had a Hole in One on Hole #14.  That is Larson’s first hole in one and he hit a 4 iron from 212 yards.

Special thanks to Gene Orrico, PGA Director of Golf and his staff for hosting the 2013 MAPGA Spring Fling.  His staff did an excellent job preparing the golf course and facility for the event especially Chris McIntosh (Assistant Professional.)  Thank you Gene!!
