FINAL ROUND SUMMARY

MIDDLE ATLANTIC PGA JUNIOR SPRING FLING MAKES FOR EXCITING OPENING EVENT
The 10th annual MAPGA Spring Fling ended with fantastic scores and great highlights. Hosted at Fauquier Springs Country Club in Warrenton, Virginia, 100 junior golfers, ranging in ages from 12-18, battled chilly temperatures, steady winds and challenging greens in this two day, 36-hole event.

In the overall boys division (ages 14-18), Tyler Satorius of Annandale, Virginia lead the way after the first round with a one over par 72. With plans to attend Belmont University this Fall on a golf scholarship, Satorius finished with a two round total of 151 tying for third. Adding excitement to the final round was Chris Brugge of Vienna, Virginia who knocked his tee shot in the hole on the par four fifth hole, scoring a rare albatross. Coming out ahead of the pack and winning the overall boys division was Ryan Douglass of Leesburg, Virginia shooting a phenomenal 36-hole score of 147 (75-72).

In the boys 12-13 division, Jake Miles of Spotsylvania, Virginia, shot a fantastic 36-hole total of 157 (82-75). With this score, Miles won his division, and also matched up as ninth overall amongst all the boy competitors. The MAPGA Spring Fling is already Miles’ third tournament of the season.

Winning the overall girls division (ages 12-18) was Rachel Lee of Woodstock, Maryland. Lee shot a two round total of 155 (78-77) in challenging conditions. With over twenty junior tournaments planned this summer, Lee, a High School Sophomore, hopes to increase her college prospects going into her Junior year. Also, winning in the girls 12-14 division was Amber Liu of Vienna, Virginia. Shooting a two round total of 168, Liu proved that she will be a competitive force for the coming season.

Thank you to Fauquier Springs CC Head PGA Professional Andy Hersey and his staff for a successful event.  Also, thank you to the following MAPGA Volunteers who served as Rules Officials - Judge Harrison Braxton, Don Erbach, Jim Carr & Jim Murphy.

ROUND 1 - SUMMARY

SATORIUS OF ANNANDALE, VIRGINIA LEADS MIDDLE ATLANTIC PGA JUNIOR SPRING FLING
Stafford, VA – High School Senior, Tyler Satorius of Annandale, Virginia leads the way in the overall boys division (ages 14-18) at the 2012 Middle Atlantic PGA Junior Spring Fling. Shooting a fine one over par 72 at Fauquier Springs Country Club in Warrenton, Virginia, Satorius said it was a struggle, but some key short puts to save par and three birdies on the back nine kept him in the hunt. Satorius has committed to play golf for Belmont University in Charlotte, North Carolina this Fall. Right behind Satorius is Adam Szwed from Woodbridge, Virginia and Nathan Tenpas of Chevy Chase, Maryland both shooting two over par 73.

With chilling temperatures and steady winds throughout the morning tee times, conditions at Fauquier Springs Country Club made for a challenging first round. Add lower than normal precipitation to this mixture and you get very firm and fast greens which became the nemesis of many players.

In the boys 12-13 division Jake Miles of Spotsylvania, Virginia shot a first round score of 82 and leads by one over RJ Wren of Morgantown, Pennsylvania. Miles started off strong with a birdie on the first hole and never looked back. Wren eagled the par four first hole by holing his second shot from 50 yards away.

Leading the overall girls division (ages 12-18) is Rachel Lee of Woodstock, Maryland. Lee shot a 78 in very difficult conditions. Her round started off slow with two bogeys yet she finished strong on the front nine with a birdie on hole #7. Behind Lee is Kendall Taylor (McLean, VA) with a first round score of 80 and Elizabeth McGarrigle (Wernersville, PA) with 83.
