PGA Apprentice Jaime Gylan of Baltimore, Md. Wins the 2012 National Car Rental Middle Atlantic PGA Assistant Championship presented by COBRA PUMA GOLF & Club Car
Rockville, Md. – PGA Apprentice Professional Jaime Gylan of Baltimore, Md. represented his home course of Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club (Leesburg, Va.) well by posting a 10-under par 134 giving him a six shot victory at the 2012 National Car Rental Middle Atlantic PGA (MAPGA) Assistant Championship presented by COBRA PUMA GOLF and Club Car. Contested at the elegant Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, Md., the MAPGA Assistant Championship hosted a field of 59 PGA Assistant Professionals and Apprentices from the Middle Atlantic Section.
Four spots were up for grabs to advance to the PGA’s National Assistant Championship which will be held on November 1-4, 2012 on the Wanamaker course at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Gylan’s spot was a lock, yet four players finished tied for second with a two-round total of 140. Patrick Hawkins, PGA (Richmond, Va.), Billy Hoffman, PGA (Bethesda, Md.), Yong Joo (Bristow, Va.) and Steven Pierce (Centreville, Va.) entered into a sudden death playoff for the three remaining spots. Starting on hole #10, a 431 yard par-4, all four players made par and the sudden death playoff continued to #18. An even longer par-4 at 445 yards, #18 was no match for Hawkins as he went on to make birdie. Joo and Hoffman stayed consistent with pars, but Pierce faltered with a bogey knocking him out of the running.
Pierce along with fellow professionals Jay Lindell (Fairfax, Va.) and Chad Moseley, PGA (Reston, Va.) will hold alternate spots for the National PGA Assistant Championship in the event that one of the qualifiers is unable to attend. Lindell is a PGA Apprentice Professional along side Jaime Gylan at Raspberry Falls and Moseley is an Assistant Professional at Belle Haven Country Club (Alexandria, Va.).
