PGA Apprentice Golf Professional Ashley Grier of Hagerstown, Md. Wins 2012 EP Pro Middle Atlantic PGA Women’s Championship

Aldie, Va. – Creighton Farms Golf Club in Aldie, Va. was host site to the 2012 EP Pro Middle Atlantic PGA (MAPGA) Women’s Championship on Thursday, August 2nd. This majestic setting was where former LPGA Futures Tour Player Ashley Grier took the crown as Women’s Champion in the MAPGA. Although the field was relatively small this year with 18 female professionals, this number was a jump of seven more players than 2011.

Grier, a PGA Apprentice at Beaver Creek Country Club (Hagerstown, Md.), carded a one over par 73 from Creighton’s forward tees which were set at 5,717 yards. Her six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 9, 11 & 17 came in very handy and were enough to offset four unfortunate bogeys and one triple bogey. “This is first time that I’ve played Creighton,” said Grier, “and some of the holes got the best of me because I was not quite familiar with how they played.” Coming off of a tie for 9th at the MAPGA’s Assistant Championship which was held on July 30th & 31st, Grier credits her consistent play to participating in several MAPGA events this season.

Next on Grier’s tournament schedule is the Symetra Tour’s Challenge at Musket Ridge in Myersville, Md. on August 20-26 where she will be playing on a sponsors’ exemption. Click here for additional details on Grier’s exemption.

A special thank you to EP Pro and their Middle Atlantic Sales Representative Valerie Merrill for their support of this event.
